When you look at it this way, it becomes clear just how important iCloud is to the Apple ecosystem. It’s slow and subtle integration with iOS and OS X has become paramount. The cohesiveness of iOS and OS X is achieved though iCloud by syncing documents, media, settings, etc. Take that away and a lot of the “magic” of iOS and OS X would turn into pain points.
