Maarten is from Belgium. He's happily married to his wife, Laura, and they have one daughter, Emmeline. Professionally, Maarten is a financial controller and a runner in his spare time.

Here’s what Maarten wrote in to say about The Focus Course:

After finishing the course, I wanted to share why I signed up for it and what my experiences were. I've enjoyed every step towards a life with more clarity and focus.

For most of my life, I was going with the flow. When going to university, I more or less chose the courses my peers were taking without really asking myself if they interested me. Needless to say, I was never truly motivated to do well, so it took me a bit longer to get my degree. Before graduating, my best friend more or less said where I should interview and get a job. And that's what I did.

Fast forward a couple of years: I have left that first job. More importantly, at the end of 2013 my wife gave birth to our lovely daughter. Ever since, I've become more aware that so far, I've not really set a good example for my daughter. I wanted to live my life more consciously and be able to choose the important things in life for the right reasons. However, I never developed the skills and tools to do so and changing that was quite a struggle.

When you announced the Focus Course and explained the contents, joining was basically a no-brainer. This was it: forty days full of content and assignments to change my life.

I did not get disappointed.

I found the modules to be well structured and built up logically. I like how you framed the daily assignments (explaining the why and the big picture for each). For me, the daily pace for modules 2-4 was challenging, but I attribute that to my lack of experience with asking myself those type of questions. I did most of my assignments during my daily train commute.

To me, the Focus Course is an excellent toolbox filled with questions that guide and direct me to what I find important in life. It provides guidance on how to move the needle forward in the different areas of life. It has been awesome doing it and I sincerely want to thank you for it.

I already look forward to revisiting the contents and updating my answers later this year, or early next year.

I highly recommend The Focus Course. Thank you, Shawn!
