Here’s what John wrote in to say about The Focus Course:
I have a full time job at a law firm in Chicago. Over the past couple of years I realized a long-time personal goal of learning Objective-C and creating an iOS app. I am also a dad with a wife, two teenage sons in high school and a third son entering middle school.
When I added iOS development to my list of projects, things got a little nuts. To get to where I could launch my app, I slowly let its development encroach and crowd out other important aspects of my life. I got the app out, but I was spent.
I found a way to add iOS development to an already busy schedule, buy the way I got there was unsustainable. I was on a path to burnout. I needed to find a better balance, be smarter about picking the times when I could be most productive on projects and transition more effectively among them.
Just as I realized that I needed to rebalance things, I got the opportunity to take The Focus Course. It couldn't have come at a better time, and I couldn't be happier with the results it produced in my life.
For me, the most important aspect of The Focus Course was developing a personal framework for approaching each aspect of my life with intentionality and then converting those intentions into habits that I don't need to think about. By breaking the course down into a series of short daily readings, videos and activities, Shawn has made doing just that easy, regardless of how busy you are.
Whereas big projects once were a series of brutal sprints punctuated by procrastination, The Focus Course has helped me find a sustainable pace where I can enjoy the journey as much as the goal without shortchanging other important parts of life. Of course I'm still a work in progress, but who isn't? And that is another strength of The Focus Course — it's not a series of quick fixes and hacks, but a framework and approach that is easy to dip back into for periodic inspiration and motivation.
I highly recommend The Focus Course. Thank you, Shawn!
